How About Some Media Culpa!

How long ago was it that every paper in the country was kicking dirt onto Michael Eisner's corporate casket? And now, he is positioning the long-mocked Bob Iger as his successor, The Weinsteins are closing in on a deal to stay at the company in a form that definitively answers Eisner's concerns about their expansive spending habits and many expect that Pixar will soon return to the roost without Eisner giving them the $500 million in rollbacks that they were demanding this time last year.

So is anyone going to step up and do a story about how well Eisner has survived and thrived, despite the storm that the media was so much a part of building?

Maybe not a story, but a blog entry, certainly.

I'm sure if somebody can frame it in the negative, there will be a story -- "Eisner Weathers Storm Despite Disasterous Box Office Returns For Disney" sounds about right. Too perky otherwise.

What is the Micheal Moore effect? Disney invested not a lot of money into a cut-and-paste documentary that won the Palm D'or, set box office records and wiil undoubtedly set DVD records as well--what was Disney's cut? They must have made a dump truck full of money on this gig and they must be wondering how they get Moore back next year! The hype on '9/11' had a lot to do with saintly Moore doing a deal with the devil--and in 2004 Eisner was one of the better devils available. Thanks to this windfall Eisner will be able to bring the Weinsteins back on board, Pixar won't get a better deal anywhere else in town, he'll bring the stock up porbably 6-8% for the year and Disney's in line for Moore's next cut-and-paster hatchet job. All of which nicely sets up the opening of Honk Kong Disneyland next summer--an event Eisner must've believed he wouldn't live to preside over. Did Micheal Moore save Micheal Eisner's job?
